👨👩👦 Meet Kate's Family
Kate lives on Capitol Hill with her husband JR, a DC native and wellness professional at American University. They’ve been married since 2013 and have a 7-year-old son, Alexander, who’s in first grade at Brent Elementary. Together, they’re active in their community and always finding ways to give back.
📍 From Dallas to the District
Originally from Dallas, Texas, Kate moved to DC in 2007 after graduating from William & Mary. She’s now a DC tour guide specializing in justice-oriented tours and leads faith-based social justice programs for college students over spring and summer breaks—mostly in Anacostia through a Catholic parish. She’s also deeply involved with Capitol Hill Methodist, where she and Alexander help with the breakfast program serving housed and unhoused neighbors.
🍼 How She Found FIT4MOM DC:
Kate came to FIT4MOM thanks to a friend she met through MOTH. As soon as she was cleared to resume fitness after her son was born, she started Stroller Strides, and she’s been showing up ever since! Though, these days you're much more likely to find her at a Boost Pro or Body Boost workout —both bring the sweat and the structure she loves.
💪 Why She Stays:
“The classes are challenging,” she says, “[the instructors] make sure we’re doing moves safely.” Kate has worked through diastasis recti and appreciates the instructors’ education, awareness and support. And of course, she loves the community: “I’m in relationship with other moms and we’re always swapping recommendations!”
🍷 A Few of Her Favorite Things:
With 1000 classes under her belt, you wouldn't think Kate has time to do anything else, but there are a few things she can't resist.
-
Learning about DC history and exploring the city’s sites
-
Wine (especially from DCanter in Eastern Market!)
-
Summer evenings—those sweet, golden-hour DC nights
🏅 Fitness Achievements:
Kate has won several FIT4MOM attendance challenges—back in 2018/2019 and again recently. Plus, fun fact: in 2010, she ran her very first 5K at Fort DuPont and won it… though, as she’ll tell you, “there were only three participants—ha!”
💖 A Heart for Others:
During the pandemic, Kate served as a hospital chaplain in the maternity and birth area at Hospital Center. “It was an eye-opening and compassion-expanding experience,” she says—supporting both new parents and those grieving profound loss. It’s just one more example of the quiet strength and empathy Kate brings to everything she does.
